Blind flanges are mainly used to block off pipelines and vessels, prevent medium leakage, stop foreign‑matter ingress and provide safety protection.
The formal name for a blind flange is flange cover, and it is also referred to as blank flange or pipe plug. It is a flange without a central bore, applied to seal pipe ends. Its function is equivalent to that of an end head and pipe cap. However, the sealing of a blind flange is a demountable sealing device, whereas the seal of an end head is non‑removable for permanent closure.
There are various types of sealing faces, including Flat Face, Raised Face, Male‑Female Face, Tongue‑and‑Groove Face, and Ring‑Joint Face. Available materials cover carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, copper, aluminum, PVC, PPR and others.
